Just like heaven

FORT WORTH—We ate an early dinner tonight at one of the best restaurants ever: Joe T. Garcia's. I finally got my Mexican food fix, three days in.

We've known about this restaurant for about 30 years; the realtor who sold my parents our first house in Texas took them there after they signed the papers. It's been around since 1932, and they only have two things on the menu: fajitas (chicken, beef or combo) and enchiladas. I had the latter, which were spectacular. But it also comes with rice and beans, family style, as well as tacos and guacamole and stuff. A veritable Mexican feast, all in a nice patio around a pool.

Perfect.

Then we came home and I played Guitar Hero with my sister and my nephew. So my left fingers are about to fall off. My nephew kicked my ass, of course.

Earlier today, we all went to the mall. I hit Macy's and Banana Republic and bought some badly needed clothes. The woman who helped me at Macy's turned out to be from Adelaide, so she gave me some serious hook-ups. Gave me sale prices for a sale that hadn't started yet, and then told me to go to Customer Service to get a "visitor card" so I could take off the 11 per cent in sales tax. I got four dress shirts, like CK and stuff, and a Tommy Hilfiger polo for $120. (The Hilfiger polo was a replacement—wine got spilled on mine at the Australian Open—and it cost about $50 less here than it did in Australia.) Go figure. Also got a pair of chinos and a linen shirt at Banana for like $100. So I did well, but I hope I can fit it all in my suitcase.

It's still hot here, was about 90 today, but in the shade it's really not that bad. There's been a nice breeze. But the heat feels like I remember, and it smells a certain way, if that makes sense.

I'm going to try to work on more photos now. I see that Obama has won Oregon and is practically claiming victory. Memo to Senator Clinton: it's over.
